I realized I had not updated everyone on Kacie's 4 month check up, I realize now she is almost 5.5 months, but hey...We went to her 4 month check up about a month ago, Oct. sometime. She was 16lbs 2oz. and 26.5" long. She is still in the 95th percentile for height, still got it from her daddy I guess, oh and maybe her Grandpa Jim, Grand Daddy Hughes, Aunt Amy, Uncle David....yeah a few tall folks in her blood lines :).
She is eating 1 table spoon of rice cereal a day now, the pediatrician said we should have her eating 6 table spoons a day by the time she is six months old, we'll see, there is a bit of controversy on this whole subject, as to when you should start food. Some people say 6 months and our pediatrician says 4, what is a new mom to do. Kacie seems to be doing great with it, she opens her mouth wide for the spoon and seems to love her cereal.
She is progressing perfectly and seems to have all the skills down so far that is expected of her so we'll try and update you on her 6 month appointment before she is 7.5 months old :).

Family Photos

Recently we got some family photos taken of us for Mardi Gras. Dan and I and Kacie are royalty, I bet none of you knew that. As of this weekend I guess it is official that Dan and I will be the Mardi Gras in the Clouds 2009 King and Queen, you can all imagine Dan's excitement in all of this. :) He is being a good sport and looks great in a crown and cape. So, we were able to get some family photos after we had on our royal robes.
Tummy Time
Here are some pictures of Kacie on her changing table during tummy time recently. She is getting better and better at her tummy time. It is so much fun watching her grow and learn new things each week. She is much more attentive and aware of what is going on around her. God blesses us each day with the amazement of her life and the miracle in each new day. He is good all the time!!! All the time He is Good!!!
Oh, also here is a picture of a stylin' hat that was given to us by our friends Karen and Claire, so we had to get some photos!! Kacie, I think you'd look cute in a brown paper bag, I am bias. :)
New Bumbo video
Here is Kacie in her Bumbo about a week ago, she is getting much better at it and loves to play with her toys while sitting up now, she is a big girl :), sometimes that is the look on her face.
Happy Birthday Julie!!!
I'll post pics of Halloween and Aunt Julie's birthday soon. We had a great time! Dan, Kacie, Grammy Sue and I went to spend Julie's 27th B-Day with she and Tylan. We wanted to get together with Hunter too, but he was sick (better now!!) We got to take her out for lunch at Red Lobster and shopping and dinner at Texas Road House, had a great time!!!! We went to church all together as well and took our little pumpkins to church, they didn't get to wear their pumpkin Halloween costumes together on Sat. so we decided why not Sunday to church, they were so cute.
Thanks Aunt Julie for a great birthday weekend, we had a great time and can't wait to come back to see you again soon!!!

Kacie in her Bumbo
Kacie is learning to like her bumbo, I think it is really good for strengthening her body and it keeps her from toppling over. This video is pretty funny, hope you all enjoy and watch till the end. We are truly enjoying her, every bit.
Happy Birthday JEFF!!!
Jeff is 32 this year, I am sure he'll love me telling everyone that. I think he says he is celebrating his 29c birthday. Jeff, we think of you everyday and even more important we pray for you everyday too!! We are so thankful for you and for your service to our country, thank you!!! Tylan James Update
Tylan went to the docotor yesterday for his 4 month check up so I thought I'd blog a bit about it...He got 2 shots, did pretty good, Julie did better this time and his Grandpa Donald went with them, I think to help momma get through it. Tylan had a bit of a fever last night and this morning, but it was low and Tylenol seemed to help.
Tylan is 16lbs., 25 3/4" long and his head circ. is 16.5" around. He is getting so cute as you can see from this picture. He growls, laughs, and smiles a lot. I think he makes his momma very happy. Julie is back a work and getting all of that worked out. Jeff is doing well. He and Julie get to talk nearly everyday, praise the Lord for that. He said he can feel your prayers, so keep them coming.

Proud Aunt and Uncle!!

Julie and I and the babies have been getting some great time together. She is here with Tylan for 2 weeks. So we have been out on the the town and just hanging out totally enjoying our little ones together. We have so enjoyed this time in life to be able to share it with each other and to experience it together at the exact same time.
Uncle David came to visit yesterday and even held little Kacie, he did a great job and I think she likes him too!!! She just slept so sound while he held her. We are so thankful for our wonderful family!!! Thank you for making special trips and taking the time to come see her.
Here are some pictures of the aunt and uncle and the cousins!!! Again, we are all so blessed, thank you!
2nd Week
We are still in love with her and getting a little sleep and changing more diapers than I ever thought possible. She is so cute and doing really well, eating well and I think she likes us, it is still hard to tell. She only smiles after she has been a sleep for a while and had a full belly, not sure what she is smiling about. :)
I am still just holding her all day and enjoying every moment. Dan is a great help and does what he can all the time.
GG and Granddaddy came for a visit and I think Grandaddy is a fan!!!
Here are some more pictures. Enjoy!!!
1 week old

I am playing catch up. We are enjoying spending family time together and just haven't sat down at the computer in a long time. We absolutely love our precious little Kacie. She is so much fun and so beautiful, but then we are a bit bias. Granny Gwen (AKA GG) was here the first week to help around the house, which was such a blessing because Julie needed my mom with her since Jeff got deployed. What a blessing the extra experienced hands were!!! Kacie loves her GG!! Dan and Kacie are so cute together and he is getting really good at diapers. Fast too!!! We are getting some sleep and eating really good. We weighed 8lbs. 1oz. at our first Dr.'s appointment, but that is normal, so now we just have to eat good and gain it all back and some!!! Here is a picture from Father's Day, we got to celebrate it with all three of us!!! Dan picked out her outfit and we even made it to church. She made it through the service without too much noise, but Dad was a bit nervous for the anticipated interuption.
We have had showers of blessing the past weeks!! Thank you all for the food, the gifts, prayers, and visits!!! We have just been so blessed, it has made the first few weeks so much easier and such a joy in our hearts. God is great!!!
Here are some pics from the first week!!

Tylan James is Here too!!
Julie and Jeff had Tylan James on Friday, June 12th at 7:45pm. He weighed 7lbs. 1oz. and was 20" long, lucky girl!! We haven't been able to see him yet, but here are some pictures of him too! Jeff is heading back to Wisconsin today and will be deployed soon to Afghanistan. My mom is spending time with Julie until she and Tylan can come here for a long visit, then the cousins can get acquainted!!
Tylan is battling with jaundice quite a bit and has a blanket with a light in it for treating jaundice, at home that he has to be in 24/7, except diaper changes. This is in liu of sending him back to the hospital. So please keep him in your prayers too that he will be over that soon and can come to visit!! Aunt Shelley and Uncle Dan want to meet him!!!
She is Here!!

Here are some pictures of baby Kacie Lyn. She was born Saturday, June 13th at 11:52pm. She was 8lbs 4.9oz. and was 21.5" long!!! She was a big girl.
The delivery went fairly well. Harder than I had ever imagined, went much better after the epidural, highly recommend the epidural. We made it to 6 cm, but couldn't go any further without some meds. We were in labor from about 4:30 -12:00, so not too long. It was time, we were 4 days past our due date and the anticipation was killing us! God's timing is perfect however!! He has blessed us with such a wonderful joy and beautiful, perfect baby girl!
We had gone to the hospital on Thursday morning because she wasn't moving much and I was getting worried. Everything was fine and they said that I was probably in early labor and that I'd be back in 4-48 hours, so we had lunch, shopped and hung out for a while that after noon to see if things changed. Everything was the same that afternoon, so home we went and waited two more days.
Thank you all sooooo much for your prayers and support, we could not have done it without you and without the grace of God. What an amazing experience and one we will never forget. Of course it has brought Dan and I closer and we both just cherish the new little one in our family!!!
God Bless you all!!

12th Doctor's Visit - Due Date!!!
Well, no baby yet. Dr. said all looks good and she thinks I'll go into labor before next week. I was hoping for the Full Moon, but that didn't seem to make a bit of difference. So I guess we have to stay ready for any day. Julie said maybe she'll come right on her due date and be on time just like her daddy always is. I think she was implying that I am late some times...maybe she'll make an entrance tomorrow, fashionably late :). That would be my girl! Her heart beat sounds good and her movement is good and she is pointed in the right direction, so all should be fairly smooth. The Dr. doesn't foresee any complications so the rest is in the Lords hands and he is in control and his timing is perfect. Thanks for your prayers they keep us calm and at peace. We are getting excited more than anything. It is like Christmas Day, we just don't know when that day is. So the suspense continues to build. God Bless you all and we'll be in touch soon!
Oh, and today is our DUE DATE!!!!! So is today the day???

11th Doctor's Appointment
Everything went well last night at our 11th appointment. We set up our last appointment for next Monday, hopefully we won't be needing it, but just in case she decides to come late. I think she is tight on space now and maybe that will encourage her to come earlier than planned. We are just excited to meet her and Dan is most excited to see who she looks like, I should remind him that most new borns look like shriveled up old people and slowly they take shape. We did have it confirmed again yesterday that Kacie is still a girl, so now we wait and see. The Dr. confirms it for Dan every time now because he was so concerned that we had all this pink and nothing for a boy. Her heart rate was good, my blood pressure is low as normal and my weight was right on. So everything is going well. The Dr. said it could be any time or take as long as two weeks, she just preferred not last night, so we didn't' have her last night. The Dr. had delivered 3 babies with in the last 24 hrs and was a little tiered. Granny Gwen has her bets on today. We will see if she is right!! Maybe I should take a long walk at lunch!!
God Bless you all and we'll stay in touch!!

39 weeks today!!!!
Baby Hughes construction project is still under way. We were hoping we would get her completed early, but as of yet, no such luck. Looks like we'll be right on time. We have an appointment today, so we'll fill everyone in on what the Doc says. Here is a recent belly shot. I am feeling great, just tiered, but sleeping okay between bathroom breaks and when I can breath threw my nose. I am so stuffy, uhhhhggg. Dan is currently in the guest room so he can get some sleep and hopefully all that stuff will go away once the baby is here, then it will just be up with her every couple of hours or so. That is much better than up to go to the bathroom or because I am snoring too load. We are so excited to see who she looks like and can't wait to show her off.
One week from today, we'll see. We will keep everyone posted as best we can, check the blog or face book or your email! Much love, Shelley, Dan, and baby Kacie :)!!!
Bluff Springs hike
Dan, Tucker and I went on a hike at Bluff Springs this weekend after a nap. We are trying everything, bumpy roads, long hikes, plenty of rest, mexican food, I guess it is time for Julie's chilies. On second thought I might wait till we are one week late, they are pretty hot and pretty much hurt to eat.
Memorial Day weekend
We had two of our very great friends down for Memorial Day weekend. We got to spend Sunday and some of Monday together. They brought their two boxers, Peaches and Enzo down to play with Tucker. They seemed to all get along pretty well. They are a little over a year and Tucker is almost 4, but if any of you have ever met Tucker you know he is full of energy!!! He really does settle down at home for us, but not when we have company or other doggie friends around. We are so glad they came to spend time with us. We are trying to pass time by the best we can right now as we wait for baby's arrival. Hope you all had a great Memorial weekend. Thank you to our armed services for their service and duty for our country, that we might be free!!!

9th Doctor's Appointment
Well, once again everything has checked out nicely. Her heart beat sounds great, she is still a she, Dan was glad about that. The doctor said everything looks great and just as it should. So we are still on schedule for June 9th as a due date, but of course we'll see what little Kacie has in mind. Today is my final crunch day, so after today will be fine with me. We are both excited and ready to meet her any time. Of course the longer she stays the better so...I'll keep you posted on next weeks visit.
